No need to shake floor rugs, simply run the vac over them. I use it everyday to sweep my entrance way. It means no dust pans or airborne clouds as I try to get the mess off the floor. The Dirt Devil Broom Vac has made my life so much easier. True the dirt devil broom vac does work, not for really dirty areas. As long as you don't expect too much from it, it's a good product. It's also good for small, quick clean ups in my kitchen and other wood floor areas. So although I really would not recommend this for someone with an large area like an entry with lots of dirt and fur, I give it an above average because it does what I wanted, cleans my stairs. If it had more suction I think it would do better, but what can I expect from something cordless?! The fur and dirt catches too much in the bristles and I have to pull it out with my hands, might as well be using the broom and pan. I must say this is too big of a task for this little guy. Although it's not perfect, it does a much better job than a broom does, not quite as good as the vacuum (surprise, ha!) Now, I was HOPING that it would also help me in keeping my entry way fur free. But I use it as I wanted, vacuum on as I go across each step. I was dissapointed when the directions recommended using it as a broom first and then just vacuuming up the pile you made. am I the only one with this problem?! This is the one that sounded best. I could not find reviews that said anything was good for stairs with fur. Plus I do not have an outlet near them so it was a pain to get the vacuum plugged in to do them. I have wood stairs and two labradors that seem to shed at the blink of an eye! Digging out my Dyson to drag up and down the stairs got old fast. I got this gadget for one thing only, to vacuum my stairs. I probably wouldn't have spent my own money on this, but we have enjoyed using it. The other thing that I have noticed is that it doesn't seem to hold the charge for very long, but it is OK for quick use in smaller areas. When I want to be more thorough, I still use a regular broom or vacuum to get the job done. I typically just use this for quick clean-ups, so this is not that big of a deal for me. One thing I have noticed is that the suction is not great, so you sometimes have to go over the same area a few times to get everything up. Since it's so easy to use, I even let my six year old use it every now and then and when she does, she actually thinks chore time is fun! I also love that I don't have to mess with a dust pan when "sweeping" the kitchen. I love that it is lightweight and portable. I don't have time to do a thorough vacuuming on a daily basis, but this is great for quick pick-ups to keep things looking nice, and it does a great job with dog hair! With two kids and a dog, I find that the floors in the kitchen and family room, which are our "high traffic" areas get messy on a daily basis. My parents gave us the Dirt Devil Rechargeable Broom-Vacuum as a Christmas gift. Maybe objects need to be more rigid and not flat? Overall, no impressed and I definitely wouldn't buy this for my home. I got most of it up that way and then resorted to packing tape to pick up the stragglers. I finally gave up and tried using a regular broom. I turned it around to see if it was jammed and it all looked clear so I tried over and over again and nothing happened. I ran it over the carpet again and again but the broom simply wouldn't pick anything up. Let's just say I was lucky if it even picked up an eighth of those little circles. I grabbed the Dirt Devil and went to work. So being lowest in the order of hierarchy in the office, I was asked to clean it up. The hole puncher exploded upon opening and little paper circles went flying everywhere. One day our 3 hole punch got jammed and someone decided that it would be a great idea to just open it up right on the desk versus over a garbage can. We have the Dirt Devil broom at work and this thing does not work.
